 Pre and Pro Biotics

Pre and Pro Biotics

I am oftened asked about pro biotics.  They are a hot topic because a happy digestive system that is moing and shaking equates to all good things.  Like wearing a bow in your hair, you can't have a bad day if you are having a day of good digestion.  Often overlooked are prebiotics, essential to feed the pro biotic baceteria in your colon.  There is no yang without some ying

Supplements vary (pre biotics with different strains and concentrations of bacteria) and I think testing out which one works for you is the answer.  Probiotics are also naturally found in many of the foods we eat.  Cue yogurt. Oh Hey, Kimchi!

The easiest way to imagine prebiotics and probiotics and how they help each other out is to think about a bowl of yogurt with banana and chopped up apple as a topping.  The enzymes and insoluble fiber in the bananas and apple feed the bacteria in your colon and the yogurt is full of the good bacteria that your intestines needs.  The apple and banana is broken down in your stomach before it meets with you intestines to hang out with the bacteria there, all the while the bacteria found in the yogurt is happy to have found it's rightful place.

Make a simple morning dose of pre and pro biotics with a shake of cinnamon and your day is off to a good start.

PrePro Bowl

  • 6 ounces 2% Greek Yogurt

  • 1/2 Banana, sliced

  • 1/2 Granny Smith Apple, chopped

  • 3 shakes, Cinnamon

1. Top yogurt with banana and apples.

2. Add cinnamon to taste
